Augmented Reality Sandbox

Canterbury maps have partnered with Aurecon to bring you the augmented reality sandbox.

This is a hands on sandbox exhibit combined with 3D visualisation applications.

Simply mold the sand by hand and the landscape comes to life! The sand is augmented in real-time with an elevation colour map, topographic contour lines, and simulated water.

Make it rain by holding your hand over the sandbox.

This exhibit was built by Aurecon using Augmented Reality Sandbox technology developed by the UC Davis W.M. Keck Centre for Active Visualization in the Earth Sciences (KeckCAVES), supported by the National Science Foundation under Grant No. DRL 1114663. Click here for more information.
